Wellpinit Track and Field

The coach for the 2008 HS Track Season is Ms. Jane Swiatek.

Here is the current Track Schedule.

League Championship Results
Date: May 10, 2008

The Wellpinit Track Team (boys & girls combined) was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for Panorama Track Teams.

The Wellpinit Boys Track Team earned Second Place overall in the Panorama League, losing only to St. George’s.

(I am still trying to figure out which sentence makes me prouder.)

The Sportsmanship Award is voted on by the coaches of the 1B and 2B track teams in the league - the people who have seen the student-athletes interact with others throughout the season. Our young men and woman are often complimented on their behavior, on their "yes, ma’am" and "thank you, sir" - Cheyenne Swift is known all over as a fine young man - parents, coaches, event judges all wish him well and take the time to say so to me. To me, the sportsmanship is a team effort - and thank you as people involved in these young people’s lives - as relatives, educators, or as people who care - for helping to shape a team who is awarded a Sportsmanship Award.

For the girls:
Veronica McCrea earned her Personal Record (PR) in both the 400m and 200m, and placed 8th in the 400m.

On to the boys:
When the boys and I looked at a season’s worth of results, we determined that, on a good day, our nine member team could take 4th place in the league, despite being one of the smallest teams in the league, and being the smallest 2B team. We also figured we had a chance at third place, if we had a really good day vs. Republic.

Well, we had a really really good day - and took second place, edging out that huge Selkirk team by 2 points, and beating Republic by 9 - which, in the world of track, is not much at all. That is a good hand-off or a DQ in a relay, that is taking first instead of second, that is having a relay team or not, that is having an athlete be eligible or ineligible, that is...
  • First place finishers and thus League Champions in individual events are:
    • Joey Brown - High jump
    • Kennedy Seyler - Triple Jump and 300m Hurdles
  • 2nd place:
    • Chey Swift - Discus
    • Kennedy Seyler 110 hurdles
  • 3rd place:
    • Joey Brown - 100m
  • 4th place:
    • Cheyenne Swift - shot put
    • Joey Brown - 200m
  • 5th place:
    • Vinnie McCrea - discus
    • 4 x 400 relay team
  • 6th place:
    • Roberto Seyler - discus
    • 4 X 100 relay team
  • 7th place:
    • James Prouty 400m
    • Marvin Reevis - 300 m hurdles, javelin
    • Joey Brown - long jump

Moving onto Districts are (in alphabetical order): Danny Brigman (4X100), Joey Brown (100m, 200m, high jump, long jump), Vinnie McCrea (4X100, 4X400, discus), James Prouty (4X100, 4X400), Marvin Reevis (4X100, 4X400, Javelin), Kennedy Seyler (4X400, Triple Jump, 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles), Roberto Seyler (discus), and Cheyenne Swift (discus, shot put). The District Meet is on TUESDAY, May 13th.

Thanks to all of you who came to the meet, worked at the meet, asked about the team, offered support, said ‘good job’ to the kids, worked with the kids academically, covered my classes when I left for meets, drove a bus or a van, and all the other things you did.

I appreciate, and so do the kids.

Jane Swiatek, Coach

Joey Brown is the fastest man in the league (& he can high jump higher than I am tall), Chey is 2nd in the league in Shot Put, and 1st in discus, and, well, I could go on and on - I’ll just mention those two seniors.
