Wellpinit School JROTC History

The idea of a Junior ROTC (JROTC) program in Wellpinit began in 1995. It was brought to the community’s attention by Mr. Reid. After calls to senators and other various people, Wellpinit was put on the waiting list with hundreds of other schools. It took almost ten years for the program to complete and begin due to the long process of recommendations, working with senators, etc. The people at Wellpinit who worked towards making the program happen worked with senators such as Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell.
,br> The ROTC program started at Wellpinit High School in the 2003-2004 school year with First Sergeant (Retired) Shad certain being the first instructor. He worked here for two years and in his second year (04-05 school year), he was joined by Sergeant First Class (Retired) Wulczynski. In This following school years of 2005-2006, 2006-2007, the instructors were SFC (R) Joe Wulczynski and Sergeant Major (Retired) Larry Anderson. The 2007-2008 school year Major (Retired) Eric Cusick joined SFC Wulczynski (otherwise known as Ski) with the departure of SGM Anderson.

Why, you might ask, would one think of a JROTC program for the small town of Wellpinit? Like any other community, the people want what’s best for their students. The Program helps to develop leadership skills, builds on community service, and teaches respect. The program has become a significant part of the Wellpinit High School curriculum and continues to support academics, physical fitness, and support our community.
