Remembrance of childhood...
As a child I remember that I always enjoyed visiting my Grandmother Nancy, she lived in the Ford Area on the Spokane Indian Reservation. One early Summer day, I must have been around 6 years old, our family, aunties and cousin's, etc. were all there. After the days visit, the women were getting things ready for dinner, and grandma Nancy started tossing out some hints, " You know this time of year the foam berry should be ready" The women continued to get dinner prepared . " Boy it's sure been a looooong time since I had some Indian Ice cream" Ok, to the ears of a 6 year old, the conversation just got interesting. "Ice Cream" I said with great enthusiasm, " I want some Indian Ice Cream" Grandma now had a strong Alia in her corner for the need of Indian Ice Cream. My mother tried to tell me that I probably would not like Indian Ice Cream, but really how can you tell a child that he would not like ice cream. So soon my mother and Aunties said, right after dinner that they would go up on the hill and gather some foam berries. Grandma and I hurried thru our wonderful dinner of Stew and biscuits that were prepared in a wood fired stove. My mother, Auntie Clara and Cousin Dee Dee jumped in the car and headed out and soon returned with a pillow case with little reddish, pinkish type berries, I wanted to try some right off, but was told to wait, be patient, they are not ready yet, out came the mixing bowl, sugar, Grandma Nancy with smiling eye, licking her lips and making Hmmm noises, I can almost taste it now, I can't wait how about you Johnnie, "I'm with you Grandma" " Hurry up we want some Indian Ice Cream" Again getting told to be Patient and wait. With some crushing, mixing, sugar, whisking, soon a pretty Pink Foam started to form in the mixing bowl with a taste test Auntie Clara smiled and said " I like mine with a touch of vanilla" and in went a few drops of vanilla. And the finally the Indian Ice Cream was ready!!! A large bowl appeared and a Beautiful Foamy Pink Creamy serving was given to Grandma Nancy, and with a heaping spoon full into her mouth, and with a dreamy look in her eyes and sound of delightful noise, Grandma proclaimed it as delicious! Well that was good enough for me and I wanted my own bowl of Indian Ice Cream. Grandma smiled and said here Johnnie try some of mine, and with great anticipation I took a great big spoon full, ?!?!?! soon I was sputtering and spitting dancing around in circles, and everyone was laughing, and grandma was laughing so hard that tears were coming from her eyes. That was when I found out that Indian Ice Cream is rather bitter. Well as the years gone by and with each year I go out and gather the berries that made me the center of a joke, I have grown to enjoy foam berries and Indian Ice Cream.
Remembrance of being a teenager...
The Freedom of a Car, the trouble that having a car can cause and the adventures that got me into trouble, the winding, twisting, bumpy and all too fast road from adolescence to young adulthood.
My favorite teacher:
I do not recall his name now - but he was a rather tall skinny awkward looking man with a large crooked nose whom I got into trouble for drawing him as a vulture from time to time. For all his unusual looks and his making fun of my last name. "Mr. Tweeters, you have just volunteered to provide the class with your insight of what you think the answer is, I'm sure with all your wisdom, you should have no trouble with the answer. " Wouldn't you know, I was not paying attention to the drift of the conversation whenever I volunteer myself. Over the couple of years of having his class, I learned to pay attention, well, still probably messed around way too much, but listened enough to provide some answers whenever I find that I had volunteered myself again.
What do I do for fun?
Perennial Garden, I enjoy that, plant once and usually come back for years to come. Hiking out and about behind the house, oops, watch out for the Moose. Singing to the radio with the windows down, boy I can really sing . . .. . off key. Gaming, reading.
| My favorite... | | Book: | |
Currently, I'm reading the Dragon Lance Chronicles.
Music:
To pick a favorite - kinda difficult - my taste in music varies a bit - from days gone by of Frank Sinatra,, Sammy Davis, Billy Holiday, Charlie Parker, Curtis Mayfield - blues - jazz - relaxing sounds of Enya , Flute Music, to knock down drag out War Dance music of Black Lodge. Well can't say I'm a bit fan of most country or Rap, but most everything else, I find a place and time to listen to.
Food:
Mexican food, potato chips Rrrrruffles have Rrrrridges, Chocolate a must. Was I supposed to choose only one favorite?
TV Program:
Currently "Everwood" has my attention - but that changes with the seasons.
Movie:
Something about Mary..... ok that's my sense of humor.
An unfulfilled fantasy...
Playing the piano, having Michelle Pfeiffer lie across the top of the piano singing My Funny Valentine.
Something that people don't know about me...
Hmmm What is there to know - Well, My Wife and I were born and the same day and same year, just different cities, that's a little different.
