Jane Swiatek

Where were you born?

Winchester MA, grew up in Enfield, CT

Where did you go to school?

Prudence Crandall Grammar School, Thadius Kosciuszko Junior High, Enrico Fermi High School, Stanford University

Remembrance of childhood...

besides being put in the dryer by my evil older siblings? How about the family vacation in the station wagon with the wood paneling across the USA - twice?

Remembrance of being a teenager...

trying to balance school, sports, after school clubs and work - and trying to remember to sleep... And the drive thru of McDonald's with my older sister. She made me buy her fries every time we drove by a McD's - and there were three McDonalds in our town.

My favorite teacher:

How can I choose? All those who loved what they did. Mr. DePino, my high school physics teacher, seems to still be a great influence - he was a physicist who became a teacher because he WANTED to - and he really knew his subject matter. He inspires me to be at his level.

Why did I want to be a teacher?

One can teach any where in the world - and I knew I wanted to be able to go any where. I first taught in Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer and discovered I actually enjoy teaching and the interaction with others in the classroom.

What do I do for fun?

read in my hammock, plant my garden, relax by a body of water, knit, laugh, train for triathlons, and watch my students play sports.

My favorite...

Book:

(this week???) To Kill a Mockingbird

Music:

anything to which I can dance around the house.

Food:

do Necco Wafers count as food?

TV Program:

er

Movie:

The Princess Bride - mostly for the lively banter and the sword fight

An unfulfilled fantasy...

cycling through New Zealand

Something that people don't know about me...

I am secretly an overachiever.
