The Plateau Indians were never as warlike as the Plains Indians. Perhaps this was does to the assured and abundant food supply provided by the salmon runs.
Some of the tribes made occasional war raids, where they dressed in elk hide or wooden slat armour and were armed with bows and clubs. But other groups remained peaceful.
The Flatheads, in particular, were well regarded by white settlers for their courtesy, hospitality, honesty, and courage.
