who are the Spokane Indians?

The Spokane Tribe of Indians are direct descendants of the Spokane (or "spokan") Indians, who were a Plateau Indians and shared many cultural traits with their neighbors.

The Spokane spoke a language that is part of the Salish language family, and are sometimes spoken of as a Salishan tribe. Most of the tribes in the Northern Part of the Columbia Plateau cultural area spoke Salishan.
