"Plateau Indians" is the term anthropologists use to refer to the Native American people who lived on Columbia River Plateau and the drainage territory of the Columbia River before the Europeans came to this region.

The native Americans who lived in this region shared many similarities in their culture, in how they lived their lives, so it is useful to consider them together.

The Spokane Tribe of Indians are direct descendants of the Spokan Indians, who were Plateau Indians. They shared many cultural traits with their neighbors.
