who were the gold miners?

After the Gold Rush in California was over, gold miners sought for gold in other parts of the West. Gold seekers came to Washington state in the 1850s and 1860s.

Caring primarily for wealth, the gold miners were often a rowdy bunch and inconsiderate of natives and native rights. But if a European was ever killed, no matter what he may had done, it was impossible for the US Army to stay out of the fray. This is how the Indian wars in the Inland Northwest were instigated.
