What did they do for fun?

Father Nicolas Pont, S.J. worked with the Flatheads, Pend d'Oreilles and Blackfeet in the early 1840s. He drew pictures of children sliding on the ice, and playing tops on the ice.

He also painted pictures of (a) the Indians playing lacrosse, (b) sitting in a tent playing a a game of guessing in which hand an opponent holds an object [the Stick Game], (c) playing a game called roulette - an outdoor game involving a ring on a stick, and (d) horse racing. (1)
