November Message from the Superintendent Dear Parents/Guardians and Students: We would like to thank the entire community for the support provided to our students and staff as we carry on our work in creating a positive learning and working environment. Our work continues to focus on developing the emotional, social, physical, and academic well-being for all students. We maintain our focus on promoting academic achievement through the work of educational researcher Robert Marzano; Making School Improvement Happen with What Works in Schools. The work identifies five factors for successful schools; Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum, Challenging and Effective Feedback, Parent and Community Involvement, Safe and Orderly Environment, and Collegiality and Professionalism. We have implemented a new program, Response to Intervention, which targets specific learning issues and works on them in small groups or individual settings. Our school district was awarded grants to support the work of Marzano; we received the following grants, Early Childhood Literacy Grant for grades preschool – 3rd grade, Advance Placement Grant for grades 6-12; AVID Foundation Grant for grades 6-12, and a Federal Counseling Grant for grades K-12. Our staff has committed to create a positive workplace. We are working to promote a positive attitude, model professional respect, communicate effectively, and use proactive decision making. Please understand that we are a “works in progress,” and constantly remind ourselves of our commitment to our students, community, and each other. I want to thank Tribal Council for their continued support of school initiatives and for attending our opening of school. Their speaking words about the importance of education, caring for each other, leadership, and wishing us well was inspiring. I would also like to thank the Language Culture Department, the Elders, and Tribal community Elders and members, who consistently participate in cultural activities with our students. Thank you to the Education Advisory Committee for working in a positive manner in solving issues, providing valuable input, and supporting the school. In closing, I would like to send a special thank you to our staff for committing to make change, for their continued hard work, and dedication to our students. Best regards, Mr. Tim Ames, MA.
