Do you want to learn more about your Washington State schools?
Visit The Office of Education Ombudsman
They have great material, most of which applies to our community and District.
Some of the material does not apply to small, rural, school Districts, but most does. If in doubt, please check with the administrators. An example of the difference in Board Meeting policies would be that we do not publish our agenda to the web, (it may change up to the last half-hour before the meeting). Here are our policy and procedures for "People to be Heard":
RULES AND PROCEDURES FOR PEOPLE TO BE HEARD
AT WELLPINIT SCHOOL DISTRICT
- Go through the administrative chain of command first.
- What will they be discussing at the meeting? Ensure it is not better dealt with as an agenda item.
- The school board meeting is not an open forum. It is a business meeting. We are there to discuss school administration policies and school business.
- Talk for 3-5 minutes only. Do not expect an answer from the Board that evening.
- Do not discuss people’s names without giving them an opportunity to be present.
- Any one who would like to be on the agenda as "People to be Heard" should contact the District Office by phoning 258-4535 x 2140, at least twenty-four (24) hours before the scheduled School Board Meeting, usually the third Wednesday evening of every month, except if advertised differently.
