 | | Using Microsoft OFFICE 2007 | |
Updating to Office 2007 will take some getting used to.
It's like getting a new car. You need to get used to some new ways to do the things you need to do.
But hey, you have a new car and everyone will notice it.
And you will be cool.
Here are the most common problems and cool features:
- Incompatibility Issues: By default documents saved in Office 2007 cannot be read by anyone who has not upgraded to Office 2007 (or installed the free plug-in). Word, Excel and PowerPoint now saves by default in a format that cannot be read by anyone who is not running Office 2007. This includes all the students and most of the computers in the school and the world.
140 district users will run Office 2007. Over 300 will not.
My Recommendation: Set you machine to save in the older format by default:
- Click on the Office Button ("pizza button") in the upper left corner and go to Word Options \ Save
- Set the format to Word 97-2003 format [".doc"]
- A New Default Font in Word: "Calibri" whoich is not the "Tahoma" used in Word 2003.
Office will adjust automatically but you may notice small changes in your formatting.
- Everything has moved: Everything. Learn it and get used to it. You can get all this basic information by pressing F1 for Help.
- The Quick Access Toolbar: there is a useful quick-access toolbar at the top of your windows. You can customize this for the icons you use the most.
- I also recommend that you minimize the new "Ribbon" Toolbar: Just click on an empty part of the Ribbon.
Or not.
- Office 2007 now has PDF built in: However you must install a free update, which is downloaded to our network.
- Everyone says the new PowerPoint is better: (I haven't tried it yet.)
